Darby Invests in Acrecent Financial Corporation (Regional - Latin America)

 

Washington, DC, January 13, 2014. - Darby Private Equity ("Darby"), the private equity arm of Franklin Templeton Investments, announced that Darby ProBanco Fund II has made an investment in Acrecent Financial Corporation ("Acrecent") for a majority control position. Transaction terms were not disclosed.

 

Darby ProBanco Fund II specializes in the financial sector in Latin America, and has made five investments: a Latin America-wide regional investment, two regional investments in Central America, and two country-specific investments, in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, respectively.

 

Acrecent is a commercial finance company dedicated to providing businesses the capital needed to acquire essential equipment and information technology for which few financing alternatives exist. Acrecent tailors loan and lease facilities and offers significant structuring flexibility in a continual effort to meet customer needs. Having started operations in Puerto Rico in 2003, Acrecent expanded to other countries in the Caribbean. Darby's investment will allow Acrecent to expand further into Central America, offering medium-size businesses, in particular, a new specialized financing alternative.

OJA.LA closes round US$500K Led by Alta Ventures

 

Monterrey, N.L., Mexico, January 22nd, 2014. - Oja.la, the largest online learning platform for computer skills in Latin America, has raised a round of US $500k led by Alta Ventures Mexico. Angel Ventures Mexico, Naranya Labs, NXTP Labs, and several angel investors have joined as strategic investors for the round. Previously, Socialatom Ventures, Wenceslao Casares and Meyer Malka seeded the company and have helped the team through the early validation of the product. Oja.la has so far launched a total of 70 academic courses compromised of more than 1,500 video classes, and released an average of 16  courses each month to match the demand of its 120,000 registered users.

 

Initially targeting Spanish speakers in the Americas, Oja.la is an online technology school founded in 2012 by Hernan Aracena & Francisco Rodriguez. After traveling by bus for several months through South America, the team identified an opportunity to efficiently educate the middle class and enable higher skilled potential working opportunities for them.

 

Alta Ventures Mexico is focused on accelerating innovation in Latin America. Alta Ventures provides early-stage venture capital to innovative entrepreneurs in high growth sectors including mobile, SaaS, IT, clean tech, healthcare, education, security and consumer sectors. Based in Monterrey Mexico, Alta Ventures focuses on Mexican and US companies with a Latin American strategy. The AVM-I Co-Investment Fund invests in Meridia

 

Mexico City, January 20th, 2014. - The AVM-I Co-investment Fund, formalized its investment in Meridia, Senior Day Care Center, which offers essential services for senior citizens, operating exclusively during the day. The center gears its services toward senior citizens over 60 years of age who, while having some level of dependency, maintain a high level physical activity, cognitive, or social capacities, and are looking to in programs and activities to improve their well-being and health.

 

The center was founded in 2013, with one center already in operation on calle Amores in Colonia del Valle, by Gustavo Loreto and Marco Álvarez. The two entrepreneurs are looking to expand and to continue to change the lives of seniors and their families through the Gerocare method, a comprehensive geriatric system.

 

The AVM-I Co-investment fund is an early-stage private equity investment fund administered by Angel Ventures Mexico. Meridia is the sixth investment made to-date by the fund since its creation in 2013.

GBM Infraestructura I formalizó hoy la adquisición del 49.9% del capital social de Desarrollos Hidráulicos de Cancún

 

Ciudad de México, 20 de diciembre, 2013.- Deutsche Bank México, Institución de Banca Múltiple, División Fiduciaria, en su cargo de fiduciario del Fideicomiso Irrevocable número F/1491 denominado "GBM Infraestructura I", por medio del presente hace del conocimiento del público inversionista que el día de hoy formalizó la adquisición del 49.9% del capital social de Desarrollos Hidráulicos de Cancún, S.A de C.V. ("DHC"), por un monto de 1,071 millones de pesos.

 

DHC es una compañía dedicada al manejo en concesión de los servicios públicos de agua potable, alcantarillado, saneamiento y tratamiento de aguas residuales en los municipios de Benito Juárez (Cancún) e Isla Mujeres en el estado de Quintana Roo.

GBM Infraestructura, PINFRA y ALDESA obtuvieron la concesión para construir y operar la autopista "Siglo XXI"

 

Ciudad de México, 20 de diciembre, 2013.- Deutsche Bank México, Institución de Banca Múltiple, División Fiduciaria, en su cargo de fiduciario del Fideicomiso Irrevocable número F/1491 denominado "GBM Infraestructura I", por medio del presente hace del conocimiento del público inversionista que el día de hoy, el consorcio integrado por GBM Infraestructura, PINFRA y ALDESA obtuvo resolución favorable por parte de la Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes, respecto a  la concesión para construir y operar por treinta años la autopista "Siglo XXI", tramo "Jantetelco - El Higuerón (Xicatlacotla), en el estado de Morelos.

 

El Consorcio solicitó una subvención por parte del FONADIN de 679 millones contemplando un costo de construcción de 1,874 mdp resultando en una inversión neta de subvención de 1,195 millones. La inversión neta de subvención del segundo lugar fue de 1,806 millones.

"The US Energy Revolution. The role of private equity in oil and gas" by PwC

 

During the last decade, the upward trajectory of private equity investment in the oil and gas industry has been unprecedented. Between 2002 and 2012, the annual number of private equity investments has more than doubled. Although activity dropped during the financial crisis in 2008, the number and value of deals has been rising dramatically, driven by the recovery in credit availability, a divergence in the ratio of crude oil to natural gas prices, and a renaissance in shale resource plays that has produced the highest US oil production in 20 years.
