Nexxus Capital announced a 38.85% stake investment in Maak Holding. Nexxus Capital, through Nexxus IV and Nexxus V, announced an investment in Maak Holding, a Mexican holding company that operates as an integrated building products firm. According to a public filling at the Mexican Stock Exchange, Maak Holding will continue analyzing complementary businesses in the design and commercialization of building products for residential and commercial purposes. Maak Holding is the fourth investment of Nexxus IV and Nexxus V. The funds have US$ 310 million of committed capital and make co-investments in Mexican firms operating in high growth sectors. The funds' additional portfolio companies include Price Travel, Taco Holding, and Moda Holding. Founded in Mexico in 1995, Nexxus Capital is a leading Mexican Private Equity fund manager focusing on mid-market growth and buyout transactions. The firm has raised five funds with US$652 million in commitments and has listed three companies on the Mexican Stock Exchange (one in NYSE) (August 22, 2012).
Alta Ventures Closes $70 Million Fund To Invest In Mexican Tech Startups. Alta Ventures Mexico has completed a final close on its $70 million debut venture fund. The firm is an early-stage venture capital fund based in Monterrey, Mexico providing seed, venture and growth capital to companies targeting high-growth markets. The Alta team has directly founded startups and, as investors launched more than 80 companies. According to peHUB, the majority of Alta's capital came from 29 family offices based in Monterrey, Mexico. Additional investors included Dave McClure from 500 Startups and the Guadalajara Angel Investment Network. Alta Ventures will focus on Mexican technology companies working in high-growth sectors such as SaaS, mobile, big data, healthcare, clean tech, consumer, non-banking financing and education. Since its first close, Alta has invested in seven companies and already exited one of its portfolio investments: Rhomobile, which sold to Motorola in July 2011 (August 21, 2012).
MIF approves US$ 5 million investment in Mexico Development Fund I. The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) approved a $5 million equity investment in Mexico Development Fund I (MDF-I), a venture capital fund that will provide financing, as well as strategic and operational advice to small and medium-sized companies in Mexico. The Fund will be operated by PC Capital Partners, a Mexican firm with experience in financing, management consulting and private equity(August 2, 2012).
